He Has Made Us Kings And Priests

March 10, 2017

"And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth" Revelation 5:10.

When I think about a king ruling on a throne, I usually think of a person exerting their will upon their subjects with a sense of pride and arrogance. However, this picture does not represent the Lord Jesus Christ. He is not building His church with this type of attitude. True authority is not found in a title or a position. Jesus came to serve even though He is the King of Kings. So as you can see, true authority and kingship is found in someone who serves; someone who serves the people and provides for the poor and defends the widows and orphans with a righteous judgment

While reading Psalm 72 today I came across some very interesting verses. David prayed these verses to the Lord for his son Solomon asking Him for His judgments and righteousness and telling the Lord that this is how he wanted his son to reign as king. Psalm 72:2-4  He will judge thy people with righteousness, And thy poor with justice. The mountains shall bring peace to the people, And the hills, in righteousness. He will judge the poor of the people, He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor.  Psalm 72:12-14  For he will deliver the needy when he crieth, And the poor, that hath no helper. He will have pity on the poor and needy, And the souls of the needy he will save. He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence.

The Lord is preparing us to rule and reign with Him. Not in learning proper etiquette to wear a crown and robe but to show us that in order to rule and reign as a true king and priest of the Lord Most High, we must submit our will to His will and become humble and lowly in His sight in order to reach the heights that would position us in the proper state. In God's Kingdom, we must go lower in order to go higher.

The Bible tells us that Job was the greatest of all the men in the east during the time of his life. Yes, he was wealthy but I don't think he was the greatest just because he was wealthy. When I read chapter 29, I believe I found out why Job was so great. During his time of suffering, Job recalled a time of deep intimacy with the Lord. Job 29:1-11 tells us that he most definitely had the favor of God and man upon him. He was respected by everyone who saw him.

Why did Job have the rock (Jesus Christ) pour out rivers of oil for him (vs. 6)? Job 29:12-17 because I rescued the poor who called for help and the orphans who had no one to help them. I received a blessing from the dying. I made the widow's heart sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it was my clothing. I practiced justice, and it was my robe and my turban. I was eyes for the blind person. I was feet for the lame person. I was father to the needy. I carefully investigated cases brought by strangers. I broke the teeth of the wicked person and made him drop the prey out of his mouth.

Job's robe was truly a royal robe and his turban was a crown of righteousness; both fit for a true king. By Job's righteous and merciful acts, he changed his town. He changed the atmosphere of his whole region. He truly acted as a king and a priest should act. People's lives were changed. Job made a difference and he was noticed by God. 2 Chron. 16:9 tells us,  For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.  Release what you possess. Release righteous acts, set the captives free, pray for the sick, destroy oppression in the lives of those you come in contact with. Make a difference in someone's life. Change their atmosphere. Perform the kingly and priestly anointing that is resident in you. This is what you have been called to do. This is your heritage. This is your mandate from God.
